On 1st September, 2023 members of JCI Ibaraki had the
privilege of immersing themselves in the rich cultural tapestry of Kirtipur, as
they embarked on a visit to this ancient town. Their journey coincided with the
millennia-old "Saparu" Gai Jatra Festival, a profound cultural
celebration dedicated to honoring the memory of ancestors and individuals who
had passed away in the preceding year. This festival bore a striking
resemblance to Japan's Oban Festival, and the JCI Ibaraki delegation
enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to not only observe but actively
participate in the festivities. Their involvement was met with genuine warmth
and excitement from the local community, as Kirtipur's residents relished the
chance to interact with their Japanese guests. The presence of the Japanese
delegates added a special charm to this time-honored event, making it a day of
cherished memories for all involved.
